Worship

Men invent means and methods of coming at God’s love, they learn rules and set up devices to remind them of that love, and it seems like a world of trouble to bring oneself into the consciousness of God’s presence. Yet it might be so simple. . . .We can do little things for God; I turn the cake that is frying on the pan for love of him, and that done, if there is nothing else to call me, I prostrate myself in worship before him, who has given me grace to work; afterwards I rise happier than a king.— Brother Lawrence

Like Brother Lawrence, Christ’s Church for Brooklyn keeps it simple. Our goal in worship together is to bring ourselves and each other into a consciousness of God’s presence, so that afterward we may rise happier, comforted by our experience of God’s presence in our midst.

On the first Sunday of every month, CCfB enjoys a potluck “Brunch Break,” a time to eat together as a family. We end Brunch Break Sundays with Communion, which we celebrate every week. Worship together also always includes a time we call “Life of the Church,” in which we share our lives—in all their ups and down—with each other, and a time of prayer.

Other Sundays, worship may include a sermon, a bible study, a discussion, or simply a time of meditation and reflection. As a lay-led church, our corporate worship reflects the unique and diverse gifts and insights of all our members. An ongoing series, “On Vocation,” features members of CCfB who share their sense of calling to their work and the ways in which they integrate their faith and work. Currently, CCfB is in the middle of a study series on Hope, Heaven, and Resurrection, entitled, “What happens next? & What do we do now?” based on the book Surprised by Hope, by N. T. Wright.

We’ve recently begun recording our thoughts and uploading them as a weekly podcast.  If you wish you can subscribe with iTunes or through another audio program or feed reader using the xml feed.

Christ’s Church for Brooklyn worships together on Sundays at 11:00 a.m., in the cafeteria of P.S. 261 (follow the signs!).
