Christ’s Church for Brooklyn
What We Believe
Long ago, when Christianity was still a new and fledgling faith, a group of believers gathered to write a statement of what they believed. They began:
“[We] believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth,” they wrote, “and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord…”
The Apostles Creed may be a bit antiquated in its wording, but no other statement of belief says so much with so few words. And so Christ’s Church for Brooklyn, along with so many other Christian communities, adheres to that historic creed.
Those of us who make up Christ’s Church for Brooklyn (CCfB) continue to be touched and transformed by the story of Jesus Christ. Many of us are broken and hurt – and some of us question and doubt – but the story of Jesus assures us all that we can be made whole and are not alone in our pain. We believe the story of Jesus Christ allows us to celebrate the subtle truth that God is not only the creator, but also the sustainer of the world – despite any appearances to the contrary.
We learn the story of God’s love for humanity through the Bible, and so we understand the Bible to be an authority on matters of living life for God. The Bible amazes us in its timelessness, in its beauty, and in its ability to convey truths. We study the Bible with humility and an open mind, believing that God’s Word is dynamic and not static.
