History

For quite some time, the leaders at Manhattan Church of Christ dreamed about planting churches throughout metro New York. In August of 2003 they took a leap of faith and hired Joe Hays to begin the process of planting a church in lower Manhattan.

After extensive evaluation and talking with others who had church planting experience it seemed more reasonable to Joe and the leaders of MCOC to plant a church in Brooklyn. Those who live in Brooklyn tend to stay in area, whereas those in lower Manhattan are more transient. More families are found in Brooklyn than in lower Manhattan. And finally, Brooklyn is more diverse economically, racially and socially than lower Manhattan. These factors led to a shift from planting a church in lower Manhattan to Brooklyn.

In the fall of 2004, 15 people started meeting in the home of Joe and Laura Hays to dream about the possibilities in Brooklyn. We've since doubled in size, and meet at PS 261 on Pacific Street.
